Hi all, it's that time again, the DSROA annual meeting is September 13,
2014 10:00 AM at the Ranch HQ.
We have some wonderful events planned for this day.
First, we will be reinstating the ever popular DSROA Auction.
In the past we've auctioned hand made knives, items and services donated
by members, beef and cabin time. To make this a success we will need items
for the auction. One item already on the list to be auctioned off is
a week in a cabin, the rest will be all that you will be donating.
Perhaps you have a lovely vase, or an extra shovel or ladder,
Anything useful, beautiful or fun. Maybe you could donate an hour of your time
to auction off to help a fellow ranch member clear some land. We are excited to see what
you will bring to add to the bounty.
Our goal is to use the funds collected from the
auctioned items to pay for the events, food and entertainment, of next years
DSROA Annual Meeting. We personally have seen entire family reunions paid for
by just such an auction, so we should be able to pay
for our annual meeting and maybe have some left over for
other DSROA events through the year. Proceeds from this Auction
will pay for the main dish and entertainment,
the more we make the better next year's meeting!!
We are hoping for EVERYONE'S participation!!
That will also mean, come prepared to BID & BUY.
We know that everyone can't actually attend, but maybe,
even if you can not physically be here, you can participate by
donating something for the auction.
Second, Brad Hunt will be cooking Dutch oven potatoes and Dutch
oven BBQ chicken. And we're looking to you for salads, desserts,
veggies, or whatever you can think of that will be good. If you will
bring a side dish to share, our always popular DSROA annual "Pot Luck"
will be complete.
Finally - Mike Ewing has agreed to be our entertainment again
this year. Everyone absolutely loved him last year. Old
western music and good, old fashioned cowboy entertainment!!
Don't miss him, he will only be able to be at the Ranch from
1-3p.m.
Don't miss this great opportunity to meet other Ranch members,
and your new board members. A great time should be had
by all. There are still 8 open cabins on the weekend of the 12th,
use your time to come hang out at the meeting, eat good food
and enjoy your Ranch!!

Board Candidate Statements:
Robert Musko
Lot # 248
Hi
Im Robert Musko. Ive been an active member of DSR since 2004 and own lot #248.
I have a degree in Environmental Engineering and have been employed with the Nevada
Department of Transportation since 1998. In my position as Staff I Associate Engineer, I
specialize in coordination of many different government and private agencies. I am an Avid
Outdoorsman and Naturalist. I enjoy Hiking and Mountain climbing and taking my many
rescued dogs for walks. I am a long time supporter of the American society for Civil
Engineers, Defenders of Wildlife and Best Friends Animal Society, to name a few. I am past
President and currently serve as Vice President of CARES Coalition a 501c-3 charity Animal
Rescue Group headquartered in Henderson, NV.
Whats great about DSR is its pristine wilderness coupled with the amenities at
ranch headquarters. My vision includes preserving this for generations to come. The
minimum membership/lot ownership of 20 acres, makes for a nice ranch style community. So
much of politics is influenced by special interests. I would work to ensure that our
resources are divided evenly among the different areas of the ranch and all members.
My wife Susan and I live in Henderson, NV and we enjoy staying in cabin one with its
panoramic scenic views of the pink cliffs. What a fantastic place to unwind, sketch, write
music, photograph and of course take long hikes from!
Thank you for your consideration.
Leland Gentry
Lots # 23, 24
I came to visit Deer Springs Ranch 2 years ago when I married Kathy Pierce who owned a
lot. I came to see a property that my wife talked about all the time. She shared her love
about the ranch. The first time I came, I was "Hooked". I absolutely loved this
place. It is a way for families to come together and have a place that they can call their
own. Like they say, "Families that work & play together, stay together". I
would like to see this motto for our "Ranch Family". We come to Deer Springs
Ranch 2 to 4 times a month and love it here. Both my wife and I would love to build a
cabin and retire at Deer Springs Ranch. My wife and I live in St. George, Utah.
I was raised on a farm producing hay, grain and corn for a dairy farm. I worked this
family farm until I was 18 years old. I learned the value of "Hard Work". I then
went into the mining industry and I have experience with heavy equipment and taking grade
for roads, explosives with mining. I have owned my own trucking company and driving semi-
trucks, maintenance and services for these trucks. I was a mechanic for the mining
company, trucking company and for Polaris ATV dealership.
I believe that I can offer my skills in assisting and improving the ranch and its fairness
in those improvements. I believe that all improvements need to be for all members of the
ranch. I would be open to all suggestions and membership ideas for improvements and
maintenance for the ranch if Im elected.
My biggest concerns about the ranch that I have seen during my ownership are roads and
maintenance. I believe all the board members need to work hand and hand with the ranch
managers as they have more "hands on" about concerns and issues with them living
on the ranch.
There are a lot of you members that I have not met yet, but I look forward to meeting each
of you and getting to know you all. My commitment would be to serve as a board member in
representing all members of the ranch.
Rick Nielsen
Lot # 154
My name is Rick Nielsen. We live at Deer Springs Ranch.
Nancy, and I have lived on Lot #154 year 'round since 2007. We're old hippies from the
late 60's & early 70's, and as such, we have become quite attached to the ranch
lifestyle at Deer Springs. We like it 'primitive'. I would guess that most people own lots
out here to escape city life and all that comes with it. Therefore, I would oppose any
projects that would threaten the backcountry nature of the ranch, i.e. pavilions, RV
parks, etc.
I subscribe to John Southwick's old admonition of " keep it simple". My opinions
and votes would reflect this.
Also, I don't believe in debt. I'm most definitely a fiscal conservative: If we don't have
the money for a project, then it must be put in a 'pending file' until funds are
available. Ranch maintenance must come first, before capital improvements.
I apologize for not having a long term strategic plan in place for Deer Springs: I just
recently retired, and my life up till then was consumed in commuting 94 miles a day to
work, and making meals, taking care of critters, and sleeping.
Most of all, I promise to do my best to ferret out special interests here and pull the
plug on schemes & shenanigans that don't reflect the wishes of the majority of
landowners.
Thank you, Rick Nielsen
Phil Hall
Lots #53 & 44
Phil lives in St. George, Ut. and flies in often, utilizing the DSROA Air Strip.
He and his wife, Rene have two lots, #58 & #44. They have been Association members for
many years.
Phil is a past Board President.
