Jodi Akers, Treasurer

My husband, Marv and I purchased Lot #128 in 2003 and fell in love with Deer Springs Ranch. Our indulgence at the Ranch for the first 8 years was sitting on the porch at Cabin #1, enjoying the spectacular view of the Pink Cliffs, and listening to the serene silence. In the summer of 2010, we began building our little cabin in the woods. Our second love at the Ranch is exploring the endless miles of trails by ATV, and finding the secret, hidden historic treasures of past cultures that enjoyed the surrounding territory years ago.

I began attending the Board meetings in 2010 to get more insight as to the workings of the Ranch. While participating as a "visitor", I noticed that the Membership was really not at the helm of decisions being made at the Ranch, nor how their funds were being spent. I felt something needed to be done to correct this. I was appointed to the Board later that year, and hence, began the process of change.

By talking with, and joining forces with other members (brilliant ones Imight add!), after 7 long and arduous years, I believe we have finally made the Ranch a fair playing ground for everyone. It took thousands of hours and 5 years, but we were finally able to implement a Water Development Plan, which would protect the water from being the sole property of any particular reseller. Although at times, our relentlessness in doing so may have ruffled some feathers, but I would rather see feathers ruffled and take the heat vs letting our commonly owned assets be dispersed to private enterprise.

We (as Members) are the OWNERS of DSROA, and we shouldn't let anyone else portray otherwise. While serving on the Board, I continue to insist that we play fair and ethically, and ensure the benefits that belong to the Ranch..stay with the Ranch. I don't always succeed..but I always try.
